Israel Confirms Iran's Drone Attack
Israel has stated that Iran has initiated an attack by launching drones that will take hours to reach their territory. The news was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari.
The Times of Israel also confirmed the news on Saturday, with Hagari stating that the IDF is currently tracking over 100 drones that will take several hours to arrive in the country. He clarified that sirens will only sound if the drones enter Israeli airspace in designated areas.
Iran's threats came after an Israeli airstrike destroyed the Iranian consulate in Damascus, resulting in seven casualties and several injuries. Among the deceased were Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a high-ranking commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), and Zahedi's number two, General Mohammad Hadi Hajriahimi, along with five other officers.
Meanwhile, the Israel Airports Authority announced the closure of airspace starting at 12:30 am (local time) due to the attack, but did not provide details on when flights will resume. The Israeli war committee. (Photo: X @AgenciaAJN)
Israel's Preparedness and Response
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Saturday that Israel is prepared for Iran's attack and will respond in kind. "Citizens of Israel, in recent years, and especially in recent weeks, Israel has been preparing for a potential attack from Iran. Our defense systems are deployed and we are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong, the IDF is strong, and the public is strong," he said in a statement.
"We value the support of the United States, as well as the support of the United Kingdom, France, and many other countries," he added. "I have made one thing clear: whoever harms us, we will harm them back."
"We will defend ourselves against any threat and we will do so calmly and decisively. I know that you, the citizens of Israel, also remain calm. I urge you to follow the directives of the Home Front Command. Together, we stand strong and with God's help, we will overcome all our enemies," he concluded.
